Executive Summary

It is important to the Ministry of Justice that they have a clear understanding of any accessibility issues for users of their website. User Vision was commissioned to perform a spot check on a previously completed accessibility audit of the Check If Your Client Qualifies for Legal Aid service.

The aim of the spot check is to determine whether there are any accessibility barriers remaining on these pages within the journey. It is designed to capture any issues so that the Ministry of Justice can make sure that the application can be used by the widest possible audience by complying with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) V2.2 Level A and Level AA.

The audit was carried out on desktop (using NVDA, JAWS and Dragon NaturallySpeaking), iPhone (using VoiceOver) and Android (using TalkBack). On desktop, the pages were tested on Google Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari using manual and automated testing software.

The Check If Your Client Qualifies for Legal Aid was initially audited in January 2024, where 14 issues and 7 observations were captured. In this spot check conducted in April 2024, we have found that there is only 1 WCAG issue remaining. There are 5 Observations—these either persist from the audit conducted earlier or are previously captured issues that have since been downgraded. However, these will not affect the accessibility score of the site.

In April, the compliance rating was 87% at Level AA. Following the latest iOS update, the remaining issue (Expanded elements not announced as such on iOS (Positive)) has been resolved. As a result, the compliance rating has now increased to 100% at Level AA, making the site fully compliant.
